Report & Feedback

The BSME Silver Jubilee Conference in 2007 was held at The Shangri La’s Bar Al-Jissah Resort in Muscat.

The conference was opened by His Excellency Yahya bin Saud Al-Sulaimi, Minister of Education for Oman. HE Dr. Noel Guckian also generously hosted an evening for the delegates at his cliff top residence in Muscat where we were delightfully entertained by a pipe and drum band from The Royal Guard of Oman and were honoured by the presence of Dr. Kim Howells twice UK Minister of Education. The RGO, with special permission from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, also provided a “Swing Band for the Gala Dinner” which set the tone for a highly enjoyable and entertaining evening.

The theme for the conference was “Through the Eyes of Students” where the focus of the speakers turned education around 180 degrees and looked at what students consider are the “essentials” in making their education a positive and rewarding experience.

World renowned speaker Professor George Walker OBE, recently retired Director General Emeritus of the IBO was our keynote speaker and an eclectic team from the highly acclaimed UK organization “Independent Thinkers” led several sessions. Members also contributed to the speaker sessions with their “Bright Ideas” for which they received “radiating reviews”.

We had our highest ever attendance of one hundred and ninety two delegates this year. From feedback received from members and associates the conference was one to remember - for all the right reasons!
