Victoria English School is situated in the Emirate of Sharjah. It has established its excellent reputation over 18 years of service to local, national and international communities who choose to attend the school. VES offers a quality 'British styled' curriculum with its roots firmly embedded in the National Curriculum of England and Wales. The curriculum is adapted to reflect local culture and other educational influences from the Ministry of Education both in Sharjah and nationally. Our students complete their studies here at VES by sitting the internationally recognised International General Certificates in Education (IGCSEs) and the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced courses (both AS and A2 levels). The medium of instruction is in English. Here at VES we not only want our students to achieve academic success, we also recognise that they all progress academically at different rates. It is important for us to work with students to achieve their individual potential; to challenge and to push and to encourage and motivate our students. Our aim is to equip them with the skills to think independently, research, question, analyse and evaluate. Beyond academic expectations we also focus on a student’s personal and social development. We want our students to be confident, considerate, respectful and globally aware. Such skills are developed through relationships established between teachers and students and between students themselves. We offer extra curricular activities to support students’ interests beyond the classroom. These activities range from the International Award (the Duke of Edinburgh scheme), swimming and football, to embroidery, karate, 'fun with food', climbing and chess. Enrolment information and dates can be found on the website. Admission to the school is by an assessment test. For most year groups this is to measure attainment and to level students in English and Mathematics. Entry to Years 12 and 13 is by iGCSE grades. |
