Comments/Description

DESS - Learning Together - High Expectations - Celebrating Success Doha English Speaking School is the oldest and most established British curriculum primary school in Qatar. It is a non-profit making British Embassy sponsored organisation, following the National curriculum for England. It is staffed entirely by teachers with UK experience. The school provides education for those who are fluent English speakers. The pupil roll is approximately 80% British, 4% Qatari and 16% others. It operates effectively as a high quality British primary school in an international context. Standards are high; our children's achievements are significantly above UK average in National Curriculum tests. In order to maintain these standards our teachers recognise themselves as learners and engage in programmes of sustained professional development. Our facilities are excellent. They include: an extensive library, 2 sports halls, tennis courts and a shaded swimming pool; two ICT suites with networked computers; specialist rooms for science, cookery, design technology and art; 31 fully networked classrooms, each with its own computer and interactive whiteboard; and a large grassed pitch. The staff includes team specialists for Music, PE, Learning Support and French. Class sizes are restricted to 20 in Foundation Stage and 24 in KS1 and KS2. The Learning Support Department provides support for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and those with abilities outside the normal range. The school places the highest priority on the development of the whole child thus delivering the highest standards possible. We work closely with all of our stakeholders; there is ongoing dialogue between children, teachers, parents and governors in order to shape the future of our school.
